The term is most widely known today as Shipaton, an annual global mobile app hackathon hosted by RevenueCat.

The Goal: Build and launch a brand-new mobile app to the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Samsung Galaxy Store.

The Rule: You must release a first-version app and integrate the RevenueCat SDK for monetization (in-app purchases or ads) during the event window.

Prizes: Offers massive cash pools and rewards (surpassing $1 million in total value), with winning apps sometimes featured on Times Square billboards.
